Ethereum and Web3 at Knowledge Fest 2025 in Dagupan

On February 26, 2025, students from the UdD School of Information Technology Education (SITE) gathered for Knowledge Fest 2025, an event designed to explore the latest advancements in technology and digital innovation. Featuring experts across multiple fields, the event served as a platform to inspire and equip students with the knowledge needed to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

The Role of Ethereum in the Digital Future

One of the standout sessions was led by Christine Erispe of Ethereum Philippines, who delivered an engaging talk on the importance of Ethereum and the need for Filipino participation in the global Web3 ecosystem. She emphasized Ethereum’s role in decentralization, financial inclusion, and innovation, highlighting how Filipinos can contribute as developers, entrepreneurs, and active community members.

Erispe’s talk resonated deeply with attendees, as she shared insights into Ethereum’s use cases, from smart contracts to decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). She also encouraged students to explore opportunities within Ethereum’s open-source ecosystem, reinforcing that anyone with curiosity and dedication can become a builder in Web3.

The Values of Blockchain: Read, Write, Own

Beyond just a technology, Ethereum and blockchain represent a fundamental shift in digital ownership and participation. Traditional internet platforms follow the “read and write” model, where users can consume and create content but have little control over their data and assets. Blockchain introduces “Read, Write, Own”—giving users true ownership of their digital identity, assets, and contributions.

Christine Erispe emphasized how this paradigm shift empowers individuals, especially in the Philippines, by removing reliance on centralized intermediaries. She also outlined the core values of blockchain that make this possible:

  • Censorship Resistance – Ensuring open access to financial tools and information, free from government or corporate interference.
  • Permissionlessness – Allowing anyone, anywhere, to participate in the ecosystem without needing approval from centralized entities.
  • Immutability – Providing security and transparency by ensuring data and transactions cannot be tampered with or erased.
  • Security – Using cryptographic principles to protect users, assets, and decentralized applications.

A Call to Action for Filipino Builders

Knowledge Fest 2025 wasn’t just about learning; it was a call to action. Erispe’s message was clear: Filipinos have a place in the global Ethereum movement. By participating in Web3, whether through development, research, or community building, Filipino students and professionals can contribute to shaping the future of decentralized technology.

As the event came to a close, students left inspired—ready to explore, build, and innovate in the world of blockchain and beyond. With initiatives like Knowledge Fest, the next generation of Filipino Ethereum builders is on the rise, ready to make a global impact.
